CURRICULum DESIGN* Classroom Segments The classroom segment in the PGDM (RM) curriculum has six terms comprising of 96 credit points. The courses in the first year cover the basics of rural management and development. Term I and Term II comprise of core courses, which are compulsory for all PGDM (RM) participants. Courses from Term III to Term VI are a combination of core and elective courses. To ensure that participants do not miss out on relevant courses, there are four obligatory elective courses of 6 credits in Term III and each participant has to choose 3.0 credits from that. The Obligatory Electives are such as Project Management, Investment & Risk Management, Public Policy Analysis and Advanced Business Analytics. The courses in Term I and Term II cover foundation and contextual courses in rural management while Term III to Term VI includes various functional areas and development-focused courses. Besides core courses, participants also take up compulsory value-added credit courses during Term I and Term II, such as Community-oriented Research Methods, Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), Gender and Development Lab, and Spreadsheet Modeling. Participants are required to choose total 31.5 credits (6 credits in Term - III, 7.5 credits in Term – IV, 9 credits in Term – V and Term – VI both the terms) worth of electives in Term III to Term VI as per the details given below. There are eight groups under which electives are offered at IRMA. These groups are: (i) Social Science, (ii) Finance, (iii) Marketing, (iv) OB & HR, (v) IT & System, (vi) Strategic Management, (vii) Economics, (viii) POM & QT. * Details provided are indicative and may change.
