It unlocks substantial value in terms of both exposure and learning for the participants. It also provides a window towards challenges and prospects in rural India. Duration of the fieldwork segment is nine weeks and is worth eight credits. It is held after the first term of the classroom segment. The duration of preparatory component is one week during which participants participate in a gender sensitization workshop and also undergo intensive training in Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and in other nuances of VFS. The gender sensitization workshop and the PRA are components of two newly introduced value-added courses in the first term: Gender Lab and PRA, respectively. Hence, the performance of participants in gender sensitization workshop and PRA will be part of the evaluation of these courses and the rest of the trainings, filed stay, and reports and presentations will be part of VFS credits. The duration of actual stay in the village is seven weeks during which participants are exposed to realities of rural life. Under this segment, participants are divided into small groups and sent to rural areas in different parts of the country. Each group is attached to a local host organization. Members of the group stay in pre-identified villages and interact directly with the villagers. The duration of reporting component is the last one week in which participants work on their field reports and deliver presentations of their fieldwork at IRMA to the panel of faculty members. The VFS term comprises three mandatory components: (i) An Exploratory Study of the Village (ESV) (ii) Observational Theme Paper (OTP) (iii) Rural Action Component (RAC).
