As the growth story of India is being told and retold… a new found confidence is slowly but surely being reflected in the actions of the people, organizations and country at large. This confidence surely is inspired by a belief that the people have discovered in their ability to make the difference. This changing perspective also sees organizations standing at cross-roads. A few years back, organizations were not much worried about issue relating to human resources acquisition, deployment, development and retention. However, today the organizations are in severe grip of the talent retention crisis, Inspite of trying a variety of mechanisms, the organizations are at their wit’s end dabbling with this crisis. Sky rocketing compensation, non-availability of competent human resources, very high attrition, increasing demand of skilled manpower and rapid economic expansion is making the situation very complex for organizations. The situation is true in respect of for-profit as well as nonprofit organizations. Redressal of this challenge, therefore, holds the key to the growth and development story of NGOs and business enterprises.

In this issue of Network you will find: an article by the new Director where he shares his views on globalization and the civil society organizations in India. Network also welcomes Dr. Vivek Bhandari!

Prof. Anand Venkatesh, shares with us his experiences of the Fieldwork – in a lighter vein. A decade back we lost one of our brave young Alumni – Sanjoy Ghose – one of his colleagues at the URMUL Trust and an IRMAn from PRM – 8 Ajit Chaudhuri Shares his memories of Sanjoy. IRMAns Jayapadma & Liby raise certain issues around the often clichéd concepts such as Volunteers & Volunteerism, Empowerment, Participation etc. Besides, we also have our regular columns such as FPRM Speak, PRM Speak (in which the new batch of participants who are barely a month old in the institute have also contributed – largely based on their Induction Fieldwork Experiences), abstracts of IRMA Working Papers, and the significant happenings at the institute through the IRMA News. Hope you would enjoy reading the issue!
