MDPs/Workshops

“Project Planning and Proposal Writing for NGOs” coordinated by Prof. RV Jayapadma during July 10-13, 2007 was attended by over 14 senior and middle level managers of NGOs across the country.

“Mainstreamaing Gender in Development Organisation” was conducted during 31-August 3, 2007 by Prof. Ila Patel and Prof. RV Jayapadma. Seventeen participants attended including senior and middle level managers of NGOs and officers of Madhya Pradesh Rural Livelihoods Programme (MPRLP).

“Livelihoods and Governance” coordinated by Prof. Debiprasad Mishra and Prof. Arun Nathan during August 20-24, 2007. The programme was attended by 19 Participants from NGOs, Local governments and Donor agencies.

“Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Management” coordinated by Prof. Harekrishna Misra during September 3-8, 2007 was attended by 11 system managers and functional managers from Government Organisations, NGOs and Dairy Unions.

“Finance for Non-Finance Executives for NDDB Managers” was conducted during September 24-28, 2007 under the coordinationship of Prof. Shiladitya Roy. The programme was attended by 21 participants from senior managers, managers and deputy managers of different functional areas of NDDB.

HK Misra was invited as Key note speaker for the National Consultative Workshop on “Knowledge Management in Rural Development Spectrum” organised by National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), Hyderabad (Key Note Speaker), August 2007

HS Shylendra was invited as an expert to the workshop on “Microfinancing Livelihood and Family Well Being” organised by Basix Livelihood School during 4-5 September, 2007 at EDI Ahmedabad.

KV Raju was invited as a contributor to the workshop on “Livelihood Augmentation in Rainfed Areas” organised by Development Support Centre, Ahmedabad (July 24, 2007).

KV Raju was invited as a resource person to the workshop on “AKRSP-I: Working with the Poor”, Reflection Workshop at Sayla, (Aug 13-14, 2007).

WELCOME

Shri Srinivas Mudrakartha

Shri Srinivas Mudrakartha joined IRMA as a Senior Visiting Fellow on 5th September 2007. He holds an M.Sc. (Tech.) degree in Geophysics with Groundwater Geophysics as specialization from the Osmania University. He has subsequently earned a PG Diploma in Computer Methods & Programming, Advanced Course in Remote Sensing with Special Emphasis on Digital Image Analysis, and a One year Diploma in Management Studies from the Ahmedabad Management Association. He has also been a participant in many educational and professional training programs. In recent years, he has been a Ph.D. candidate at the Wageningen Agriculture University, Netherlands, working on the topic “Ecological Resilience through Social Movements”.

For last 10 years, till he joined IRMA, Shri Mudrakartha was the Director of Nehru Foundation for Development, Ahmedabad (the Parent organization of Viksat). Prior to that, he had worked with AFPRO between 1978 and 1992, and with Action Aid India between 1992 and 1997.

Besides his own research work in IRMA, his portfolio also includes developing a research program in Natural Resource Management (NRM), provide consultative guidance to FPRM students working on NRM and a research paper and a seminar presentation under the TASS.

BIDING ADIEU!

Prof Arun S Nathan joined IRMA as a Visiting Fellow on 3rd November, 2006. He was relieved from the services of IRMA on 14th September, 2007 to go for higher studies abroad. During his tenure, he provided support to BASIX, Hyderabad in developing District-wise Livelihood Plans for Rajasthan on the issues of poverty, unemployment and deprivation. He also provided support to the Department of Tribal Development, Government of Gujarat, to streamline the interventions and enhance their effectiveness by contributing to planning and monitoring processes.

He was involved in teaching and training activities at IRMA, contributing significantly in designing and offering a course, “Governance and Sustainable Livelihoods” for the participants of PGDRM. He handled classroom sessions related to “Participatory Approaches” to the PRM and FPRM courses. He was also involved in designing and offering two Management Development Programs on Participatory Approaches – Tools and Techniques.

VISITORS TO IRMA

Important persons who visited during the period were Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Union Minister for Panchayati Raj; Ms Usha Goyal, State Director of The United Nations World Food Program; Shri SK Patjoshi, MD Kerala Milk federation; Shri U Mathivanan, Minister for Dairy, Govt of Tamilnadu; Shri Atul Singh, CEO Coca Cola India. Besides, over 20 groups of students from management Schools and other organizations and other officials also visited during the period.

PRM/FPRM Events

Udaan an inter institutional event was organized in the month of September 2007. For more details read the article under PRM Speak on page no. 17. Participants of PRM-27 participated in some inter-institutional events. The following table contains details of the events upto September 2007 where the participants have won awards/ accolades.
