Prof. Asmita Vyas represented IRMA at the Vibrant Saurashtra Expo & Summit held at Rajkot on 20th April 2018. She delivered a speech about IRMA - its founder's vision as well as its knowledge base, people, programmes and achievements - in the field of rural management & development, to an audience consisting mainly of farmers and oil mill owners of Saurashtra as well as some foreign delegates (for whom her speech given in Gujarati was interpreted).
She also touched upon how IRMA's rich knowledge base in rural management could positively impact agriculture in India, with examples befitting to Saurashtra's agricultural scenario - such as value addition to crop produce, natural resource management, irrigation practices as well as renewable energy.
Prof. Asmita also emphasized upon IRMA's campus placements, especially the kind of roles participants take up in the rural context and the support system available to them. She gave the example of URMUL Trust in Bikaner, founded by an IRMA alumnus from the first batch, Sanjoy Ghose and of how, village inhabitants from remote rural regions near Bikaner benefitted from URMUL's interventions. She also talked about other IRMA alumni who are doing distinguished work in different spheres of the rural management - agribusiness, development, governance, etc.
Amongst IRMA's knowledge resources & initiatives, she mentioned the Dr.Verghese Kurien Memorial Lectures, TedX at IRMA and Grameen Gyan Kosh.
While concluding, Prof. Asmita highlighted the importance of bringing together the best practices in agriculture and a professional rural management approach, for a bright future for India.
