IRMA Organizes TEDxIRMA on the Theme “Reimagining Rural”

Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) organized TEDxIRMA on 9th September, 2018. The event centered on the theme of ‘Reimagining Rural' with an idea to give special emphasis to innovation in rural India.

"The image of ‘rural' is a giant contradiction. On one hand, it represents the glorious past of India that has been instrumental in her rise as a superpower. On the other, it's a reminder of the challenges we face and must confront before staking our claim as a superpower on the stage that is the world," said IRMA's Director Prof. Hitesh Bhatt, as he inaugurated the event. He paid homage to the Institute's founder Dr. Verghese Kurien as 9th September also marks the sixth death anniversary of the Milkman of India.

The event saw speakers from different walks of life who shared their journeys as well as their vision for a new rural India. The luminaries included Padma Shri Smt. Phoolbasan Bai Yadav, a noted social worker; Tamal Bandyopadhyay, Consulting Editor of Mint; Maanav Yashroy, Director and Global Head, BoP Business at Philips Lighting; Abhishant Pant, a celebrated Fintech Expert; Rohit Bansal, Head of Communications at Reliance Industries as well as three distinguished IRMA alumni, including Andy Mukherjee, Gladfly Columnist at Bloomberg LP; Praveen Morchhale, a National Award-winning film-maker and Nitin Puri, Senior President and Global Head, FASAR at Yes Bank.

The eminent speakers from areas as diverse as social impact, banking, entertainment, technology and innovation, shared inspirational stories, anecdotes and experiences with a packed house.

TED is a non-profit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks which has created a program called TEDx, where "x" stands for an independently organized event. TEDxIRMA was the successful culmination of the efforts and hard-work of the students of IRMA who were supported by the Institute and the dynamic alumni community.
