Prof. Sridhar Vishwanath delivered a special lecture on Developing Procurement as a Competitive Advantage for Agribusiness Firms at the International Conference on Emerging Global Economic Situation: Impact on Trade And Agribusiness In India on 28-29 September, 2018 in Anand, Gujarat.
The international conference was organized by the B. J. Vanijya Mahavidyalaya and the Agro-Economic Research Centre, Sardar Patel University. The conference had four major focal areas; viz. international business and commerce, global management, information technology and emerging issues in agribusiness management.
In his lecture, Prof. Vishwanath discussed the need for a system view to sourcing commodities from farmers and the benefits of the same. He posited that the implications of this rest in the increasing demand-side drivers of food consumption and decreasing resources to support the discerning growth in demand.
He also addressed the fact that not only must organizational leadership in agribusiness realize the importance of procurement as a strategic function but also that commodities buyers need to adopt a mindset of continual learning and develop competencies in strategic sourcing, negotiations and risk management.
Prof. Sridhar Vishwanath works in the area of General Management - Strategy & Policy at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA). His current interest areas are Strategy & Capability Development and Supply Management in Agribusiness.
