The Incubator for Social Enterprises and Entrepreneurs for Development (ISEED) at IRMA partnered with the AP Mahila Abhivrudhi Society (APMAS) to organize a three-day workshop at the Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visva Vidyalayam, Tirupathi. The workshop on "Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and "Tomato Value Chain" was held between October 22 and October, 2018.
Other partners included GIZ, World Vegetable Centre (WVC) and the Department of Horticulture, Government of Andhra Pradesh. The workshop had 202 representatives from various organizations and institutions in the region and began with a field visit on October 22, 2018.
Shri Somireddy Chandra Mohan Reddy, the Minister for Horticulture and Sericulture, Government of Andhra Pradesh, addressed the inaugural session of the workshop as the Chief Guest. Shri Y S Prasad, IAS, CEO, AP Food Processing Society, Shri C S Reddy, CEO of APMAS and Prof C. Shambu Prasad, IRMA, also addressed the participants.
Prof C. Shambu Prasad and Prof M. V. Durga Prasad from IRMA chaired the technical sessions pertaining to "Farmers Producer Organisations" on October 22, 2018 and "Forward Linkages: Marketing" on October 23, 2018. The workshop included discussions on the governance of FPOs and ways to operationalize Government of India's "Operation Greens" for TOP (Tomato, Onion & Potato) in the Madanapalle Cluster, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh.
APMAS and IRMA have been working together for the last three years on strengthening the production and marketing systems on tomato and intend going further through the Green Innovation Centre project of GIZ.
