IRMA Water Centre

Areas of Work

The IRMA Water Centre will pursue the following objectives:

  • Research/Study and Consultancy – Focusing on practical solutions in water harvesting and conservation for groundwater recharging and management, watershed management, safe drinking water supply and sanitation as they affect rural livelihood improvement and sustainable use of water in agriculture for food safety and security;
  • Education and Capacity Building – The Centre will design and offer academic courses on water management targeted especially at social entrepreneurs, professional managers, water smart start-up leaders to prepare efficient managers for water management and sensitize people on water issues and utilization for sustainable purpose;
  • Resources repositories – The Centre will build a strong resource repository of data and success stories/case studies from multiple sources and countries for identifying best practices, designing replicable experiments, learning, sharing and product building in the interest of policy makers, researchers, students, civic society and people at large;
  • Action Research - The Centre will also work for developing effective water institutions at the grassroots for sustainable watershed management and other similar initiatives such as action research, improvement of governance and management aspects, water quality, use of solar energy, integrated approaches of model-building, etc.
